The much-anticipated UPS 9th Mindanao Summit gathered delegates, officers, alumni, and members from different councils across Mindanao for a three-day celebration of leadership, unity, fellowship, and organizational excellence held in the beautiful island destination of Siargao Islands, Caraga. Carrying the theme, “Where Diversity Meets at Shore,” the summit became a meaningful convergence of ideas, camaraderie, and service among UPS members.

The summit officially opened on May 22 with the arrival of guests through the Port of Dapa, followed by the registration and releasing of summit kits at General Luna Boulevard. Delegates were warmly welcomed as they prepared for the activities lined up throughout the event. A UPS Basketball Friendly Game also highlighted the first day, promoting sportsmanship and fellowship among participating councils. The evening concluded with a “Pakighinabi,” allowing members to socialize, reconnect, and experience the vibrant island atmosphere of Siargao.

Day 2 formally commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass at the General Luna Parish Church, followed by the colorful UPS Parade of Councils where delegates proudly showcased their banners and council spirit. The official opening ceremony at the General Luna Gymnasium featured the grand entrance of delegates and guests, welcome remarks from Siargao Island Executive Council Chairperson UPS John Mark Tiu, and cultural presentations from Sajaw Kabataan.

The summit proper featured several plenary sessions focused on organizational growth, leadership, and modernization. UPS National Executive Council President Annie Arlan Cayabat delivered discussions on the Seven (7) Point Agenda of Upsilon Phi Sigma 1935, while Roy G. Ponce discussed the importance of strengthening university recognition, inter-school linkages, student organization processes, and sustainability.

Further discussions highlighted the UPS Digitalization Program led by Bernie S. Balighot, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to modernization and improved council operations through digital platforms. Additional plenary sessions and workshops focused on alumni and student discussions, organizational collaboration, and preparations for future activities including the bidding for the 10th Mindanao Summit.

One of the major highlights of the event was the UPS Awards and Recognition Ceremony, recognizing the outstanding achievements, programs, and contributions of various councils and members throughout Mindanao. The evening concluded with the lively Siargao Beach Club Party where delegates celebrated unity and friendship while enjoying the island experience.

On the final day, participants enjoyed island hopping activities across the scenic destinations of Siargao, strengthening bonds through shared experiences and adventure. The activity provided delegates with an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the island while fostering stronger brotherhood and sisterhood among UPS members.

The successful conduct of the UPS 9th Mindanao Summit demonstrated the continued commitment of Upsilon Phi Sigma 1935 in promoting leadership, service, excellence, and unity among its members. Through meaningful discussions, collaborative activities, and cultural engagement, the summit further strengthened the organization’s mission of building empowered and socially responsible leaders across Mindanao.
